AMERICA'S GREEN TEAM, TEXAS FUEL, TAKES TITLE FOR SAN ANTONIO !
The ABA is back with a bang, and now there's another
professional sports title for San Antonio.
Texas FUEL, America's Green
Team, has won the 2008-2009 Championship for the Southwest Division of
the Western Conference in the American Basketball Association.
Top seed in the Southwest, Texas FUEL beat out the West
Texas Whirlwinds in the final match, 97-93. The Playoffs were held at
the eco-friendly Palo Alto College Gymnasium in San Antonio, March 14th
and 15th. Local artist Kyle Lee performed during half-time.
MVP Keith Simpson of the FUEL earned 26 pts and 9
rebounds. He also qualified for the ABA Allstars Game in Nashville,
TN.
Also nominated from the Texas FUEL to the Allstars for the ABA
Western Conference as an alternate, Isaiah Allen, with 17pts/6rb.
Isaiah Allen and Keith Simpson both will be in the Dunk Competition in
Nashville.
The top two were followed by Langston Grady with 15pts/3rb
and Jamar Chatman,11pts/3rb.
Ben Hebl made it to the 3 Point
competition in Nashville.
The team now plays in Nashville with the best of the
East and West for the National Finals week through March 22nd.
The FUEL will return to San Antonio after the ABA Allstars game with
the goal of bringing the film, FUEL, back to San Antonio, along
with Deborah Dupre from the movie so that at least 2500 students can be
motivated by the film that empowered and inspired an entire team to GO
GREEN! in the ABA.
Future goals for Texas FUEL include a wind-powered
gym and a bio-deisel bus as part of their Eco-Responsibility Energy
Education Outreach program.
