Texas FUEL, San Antonio's new Men's ABA Basketball Team, won in a close
game over the Beijing Aoshen Olympian's after a tough battle last night
in San Antonio, TX. Temporarily based in Los Angeles, CA, the Beijing
team from China has been playing several ABA teams in the last two
months.
Texas FUEL was one of only a few U.S. teams to triumph over
these talented players, who have won 17 of their last 22 games. "We
played really well as a group, working as a defensive unit to hold
their 3 point shots to a minimum. We were able to stop their fast
breaks toward the end of the game", said Head Coach , Marlon Minifee,
of FUEL. "Beijing is a very good team, and much more athletic than I
expected."
The San Antonio home crowd was
lively and enjoyed Chinese fortune cookie tosses and music from Timothy
Anwar. Audience members joined both the Chinese team and the San
Antonio,Texas FUEL, "America's Green Team", on the floor for one minute
in a "Fuel Flash Circle for Peace" surrounded by a United States flag,
"Go Green" banners, and posters from the Fuel film,
www.thefuelfilm.com, that inspired the Texas Fuel name and mission.
Discussions were fueled comparing the benefits of using alternative
biofuels. After the game, a young cello player of Chinese descent
played during a dinner reception for both teams at Pasha Mediterranean
Grill, 9339 Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX. Despite the loss, the coach
of the Beijing Aoshen Olympians said that his team enjoyed their stay
in San Antonio and visiting the riverwalk.
This weekend, Texas FUEL will face the West Texas Whirlwinds in
back-to-back games in San Antonio, on Saturday, Feb. 28th at 7pm, at
Palo Alto, and Sunday, March 1st, at 3pm, also at Palo Alto.
The Texas
FUEL then power through one last game on March 7th, before the Western
Conference Southwest Division ABA Playoffs begin here March 14th and
15th. All tickets are $10 per adult and $6 per child, in advance.
